pile of booksThe Summer Friends of the Library Book Sale will be held July 16-19, 2010. The low prices guarantee that you’ll find affordable and interesting items to purchase, and markdowns and bargains begin appearing on Sunday afternoon of the sale, in order to make sure that all these wonderful items find a home to go to. Sets, "like new," and brand new items are priced at special prices that are not reduced at the end of the sale.

Book donations are still being accepted, and persons wishing to donate may bring their gently used items to the library. The Purcell Friends do not accept magazines for sale.

orca whaleThe Purcell Public Library will be closed on Friday, May 21st to perform maintenance tasks and prepare for the Summer Reading Program.

The Purcell staff will be hard at work creating a splashy environment to welcome customers to the library to enjoy this summer‘s reading programs with a watery theme. The branch will reopen on Saturday at the regular time.

While in a state of “library withdrawal” on Friday, customers can visit the library’s web page and take advantage of downloadable books and the many other resources available virtually, or may visit any of our 8 other library locations if they would like to visit the library on the 21st.

Purcell to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Festival Print

Woman in festival clothingThe Purcell Public Library will host its annual Cinco de Mayo Festival 6 p.m. Friday, May 7 at the library, 919 N. Ninth Street.

The event, co-sponsored by the McClain County Oklahoma Home Community Education group, OSU Extension and the Oklahoma Arts Council, will feature food, crafts and games and other family-friendly activities designed to teach about Hispanic culture and heritage. It coincides with the Cinco de Mayo holiday established in Mexico in 1862.

Activities are planned both inside the library and outside on the library lawn, weather-permitting. Included as part of the event are:
