Adams selected for leadership role

Cathy Adams, Branch Manager of the Noble Public Library with the Pioneer Library System, has been selected to attend the Public Library Association (PLA) Leadership Institute in Portland, Oregon. The Institute, “Changing Course: Leadership for Navigating the New Library” is presented as part of the PLA National Conference, March 23-27.

 Attendees for the institute were selected through an application process that assessed the individuals’ experience and their roles in leadership and change management in public library settings. Adams has been Branch Manager for the Noble Public Library since 2008. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma School of Library and Information Studies, Adams has also served as the Teen Services Librarian for the Moore Public Library, and the Reference and Instruction Librarian at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. Adams was also selected to attend the PLA/3M Leadership Development Institute in 2008.
 
“I am honored to have been selected for the 2010 PLA Leadership Institute,” said Adams. “Having attended PLA trainings before, I know how well these events are organized and how useful the information and training can be for public library professionals.”
 
PLA is a division of the American Library Association. With more than 11,000 members, PLA is the oldest and largest library association in the world. PLA’s core purpose is to strengthen public libraries and their contribution to the communities they serve.
 
The 2010 Leadership Institute has been organized by Carolyn Anthony, Director, Skokie (Illinois) Public Library; Luis Herrera, San Francisco Public Library; and Karen Danczak-Lyons, Chicago Public Library. The featured presenter is Adam Goodman, Director, Leadership Program, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.
