National Teen Tech Week, this year themed Learn, Create, Share, will be going on March 7 thru the 13th at the library. An interesting focus on technology gives teens the skills, practice, and tools to use in their everyday lives.
Two great workshops are planned, and the techniques that teens will learn in both workshops can be used in the upcoming Video Contest, with final entries to be submitted by March 22. For the contest, teens grade 6-12 will be asked to create a film “trailer”, using their favorite book as the subject. Their final artistic creations will be shown on the library’s YouTube connection sight. Winners will receive MP3 players. For full contest details and rules, please stop by the library or call 793-4349.
The two workshops to help teens hone their video skills are scheduled for the following times:
- Tuesday, March 9, 5:00 p.m. Video Workshop. Teens can learn to use the library’s flip video camera; practice creative film techniques, learn artistic tips. If you are interested at all in video, films, film-making, art, or creativity—this workshop is a must! Challenge: get in focus and shoot inspiring footage.
- Thursday, March 11, 5:00 p.m. Scratch: Videogame and Animation Creation Workshop. Teens will be using the program Scratch to create animation, cartoons and video games. Learn simple techniques to design original creations or make unique photo manipulations, then your art can be downloaded on the web for others to view.
Space is limited and registration is required; stop by the library’s Information Services Desk, or call 793-4349 to sign up.
