The McLoud Public Library will celebrate with its Summer Reading Program participants at a pair of upcoming events to wrap up this year’s program.

Teens are invited to an End of Summer Lake Bash at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Wes Watkins Lake.

Damon Springer from Oklahoma Department of Wildlife will hold a fishing clinic to teach knot tying, fish identification and being good stewards of the lakes.

Registration is required, and participants will need to provide their own transportation to the lake.

It’s a busy Thursday at the McLoud Public Library, with morning Summer Reading Program activities for children and tweens slated both in the library and at the McLoud American Legion Hall at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15.

In the library’s Milburn Room, children will learn about the water cycle in a program titled “The Incredible Journey.” Karla Beatty of the Oklahoma Conservation Commission will teach the program for children ages 8-12.

At the same time at the American Legion Hall, an underwater movie adventure for children will be shown. Popcorn will be provided.

Little River Zoo bringing a few furry friends to McLoud Print

Animal

They aren’t among the many readers who will be attending Summer Reading Program activities of the McLoud Public Library this summer, but these furry friends will be some of the summer’s most special guests.

Little River Zoo’s “Awesome Animals” program for children will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, at the American Legion Hall. Little River Zoo workers will present the program “You Can Make a Difference” and bring several animals with them for children to learn about and touch.

Registration is not required.

Get into "Mad Science" in McLoud program Print

Mad science

Mad Science of Central Oklahoma brings its imaginative program on science to the McLoud Public Library at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1.
The program will match with the library’s Children’s Summer Reading Program theme, “Make a Splash – Read” and give participants a whole new look at water.
Presenters Derick and Tonette Brock will provide an interactive, educational program on the science of water, including lively animation and a variety of water-related gear.
Mad Science of Central Oklahoma, which is based in Edmond, is part of the touring portion of the Pioneer Library System’s Children’s Summer Reading Program.
The touring acts in the Children’s Summer Reading Program are presented with support from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Institute of Museum and Library Services, Sonic Corporation, Hitachi Computer Products (America) Inc., Oklahoma Arts Council, Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, the Pioneer Library System and local Friends of the Library groups.

Wild Goose Chase Theater's "Poet's Cafe" to land in McLoud Print

Wild goose puppets

Wild Goose Chase Theater brings its array of shadow puppets and stories to McLoud as part of the McLoud Public Library’s Summer Reading Program at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 24. The show will take place in the McLoud American Legion Hall.

Their performance “Poet’s CafĂ©” is a 45-minute program of puppetry vignettes designed to teach the elements of poetry and literary awareness. 

The program combines such characters as dancing pants, lovesick witches, mischievous spaceships and many more interesting images.
