Prime Time @ Your Library
|
Families with children ages 6 & older are invited to participate in the PLS Prime Time family literacy program over the next couple of months.
What is Prime Time? A unique six- to eight-week program of reading, dicussion, & storytelling at public libraries & other venues. A discussion leader & storyteller conduct weekly book discussion & story telling programs for children ages 6 to 10 & their parents.
What does it do? Prime Time reinforces the role of the family; bonds parents & children around the act of reading; encourages parents & children to read & discuss humanities topics while fostering high academic expectations & achievement for children in low-literacy, low-income families; ecourages low-literacy, low-income parents to enter or continue their own educational prorgrams; & helps parents & children learn how to select books & become users of library resources.
Prime time also has a bilingual (English/Spanish) program, which engages Hispanic families which have limited or no Enlgish language abilities.
