Literacy Announces New Services and Tutor Opportunities

imaginelogo.gifPioneer Library System's Literacy Department is proud to announce exciting new opportunities for adult learners and those who would like to become volunteer literacy tutors.

TV411 is an Emmy award-winning series of 30 half hour programs with accompanying workbooks that give adult learners a chance to apply reading, writing and math to real life situations. GED Connection is a series of 39 half hour programs with accompanying workbooks designed to help learners prepare for the GED exam. Both are coming to Pioneer Library System thanks to funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services via the Oklahoma Department of Libraries. Both programs will be available in Norman, Shawnee and Purcell public libraries starting February 1st for in library independent study.

The Literacy Department is also in need of new tutors to volunteer to help adults improve their reading, writing and English Language skills. They will be holding a two part Literacy Tutor Training on Friday January 29, at 6p and Saturday, January 30 at 9:30a at the Norman Public Library. To register for Literacy Tutor Training please call 701.2682. Both sessions are required to become a new tutor.
