The Purcell Public Library invites families to mark a successful season of reading with a Summer Reading Program Celebration 6 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the library, 919 N. Ninth St.

The event features indoor and outdoor games (weather-permitting) a time for making crafts and free books. Children also can bring their completed reading log to get a prize.

Registration is not required.

Science Museum Oklahoma brings “Water World” to Purcell library Print

Purcell-area children and teens will never look at water the same way after Science Museum Oklahoma’s presentation of “Water World,” set for two performances Tuesday, July 20, at the Purcell Public Library.
A program for children is set at 10:30 a.m., with a similar teen program scheduled for 2 p.m. The programs will be presented by Chris Wilkerson and scientists from the museum.
Participants will get to see water that explodes, super-cooled water that crystallizes before their eyes and many other experiments and demonstrations.
Registration is not required for the children’s event but is required for the teen program, either in person at the library or by calling 527-5546.
The program is sponsored by the Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation.

Purcell tweens invited to “Act it Out!” Print

Purcell-area tweens can ham it up for the cameras as part of “Act it Out!” The program is at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15 in the meeting room of the library.

Tweens will take part in simple skits and create videos of them that they later will get to view.

Participants are encouraged to bring a few favorite props or costume accessories with them. Skits, simple props, and some costuming will be provided by library staff.

Teens are invited to learn how to make personal lava lamps at a “Groovy Waves” program at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, at the Purcell Public Library.

Materials will be provided for the program, being taught by library staff members.

Magician Steve Crawford will take families back to days gone by with his show at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at the Purcell Public Library.

“Doc Crawford’s Water Experiments” brings an 1800s medicine show theme, with experiments he hopes will “entertain, educate and amaze everyone.”

Registration is not required.
